Spring
It’s Spring.
It’s Spring.
The flowers are smiling
the trees are singing
the birds are
the birds are
the birds are birding!

But the grass is crying
the grass is low
for over in the corner
is my Dad
and he’s about to mow!

Cup Final
My team won!
My team lost.
My dad cheered and got drunk!
My dad cried and got drunk.
My mum baked our favourite dinner!
We had cold and boring take-away.
I went to bed in the happiest mood!
I went to bed (in my bedroom).
I dreamed of the winning goal!
I had a nightmare - the losing goal.
I can’t wait for next year’s final!
I’ll wait for next year’s final.
We’ll win for sure!
We’ll win. Maybe.

The cover is a drawing of me by my wife Cathie. She did all the illustrations inside as well. Me in yellow and red underpants is not a good look! This book is a series of poems about school and family, and sport. I wrote this book in one two-month period where I dedicated myself to nothing but writing (and the occasional game of soccer in the back yard with my children).
Most of the poems are true, or slight exaggerations. My favourites are The Ten Commandments (see below), Grandma, Wake up, and My Dad talks about cordial - although I like them all. (Poets always say that!)
